| "I
would like to accept God's Gift..."
That's wonderful that you would
like to make this decision! It is a very important one though,
and we want to make sure you understand it clearly. Please
read through the following:
- You must
recognize that you are a sinner. You were
born into sin from the first man, Adam, who along with Eve,
ate fruit from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil,
which God forbid them to eat (read the whole story in Genesis
2 and 3 in the Bible). As a result of this disobedience
to God, every person is now born with a sinful nature. Whether
it's selfishness, lying, greed, cheating, or even not doing
the things we know are right, we all have sinned. "For
all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."
(Romans 3:23)
- You cannot get to heaven or restore your
relationship with God on your own. No
amount of good works or trying to obey God's laws can get
you to heaven. Jesus sets
the standard for us which is: "Therefore you shall
be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect."
(Matthew 5:48). This is impossible to live up to because
we are all sinners and no matter how hard we try, we miss
that mark of perfection. Because of our sin, we cannot have
fellowship with God because God is holy. In Isaiah 59:2
it says, "Your iniquities have separated you from
your God; your sins have hidden his face from you."
- The ONLY
way to restore your relationship with God is to
accept the gift
of what Jesus has done for you on the cross. You accept
the gift through placing your trust in God's Son, Jesus
Christ.
"...Believe on
the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved..."
(Acts 16:31)
Trusting in Jesus is the only way to become righteous
and holy before God. In Romans 3:22, the Bible says, "This
righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ
to all who believe."
- Trusting -- placing your faith -- in Jesus Christ is
not just believing that Jesus existed or that He is powerful
or wise. Even the demons and Satan believe that Jesus Christ
existed and knew that He is God. In the Bible it says, "You
believe that God is one. You do well; the demons also believe,
and shudder." (James 2:19). Faith also is not
just praying to God in times of crisis or trouble and believing
He's there. It is good to look to God during times of crisis,
but that is not a saving faith.
You need to place your faith
in Jesus Christ and believe that He died and paid the
penalty for your sins. It is only by His
sacrifice that you can be made right with God and only
by you believing that Jesus Christ died for you, can you
receive the gift and then have eternal life with God.
